Ulekan Berawa

Ulekan Berawa is a high end Indonesian restaurant in Canggu, Bali. We stumbled into this beautiful spot on our quest home from buying sunglasses. They have a hard “no outside food or drinks” rule, taking away my water bottle and returning it after we left.

Food

This was a complementary rice crisp. And on the right, a variety of sambal.
We got the sate babi samcan (marinated pork belly, caramelized lontar glaze, red chilli, sea salt) and sate ayam madura (chicken sate, roasted peanut sauce, kecap manis, chilli, shallots) skewers. This was cooked over rambutan and coffee plantation wood. The pork belly was sooooo delicious!
The nasi campur royal was amazing, giving us a taste of all the Indonesian classics like rendang beef and vegetable scallops all on one plate.
This was urutan asap, a heritage bali black pig sausage with plaga lettuce cups, local herbs, house pickles, and sambal matah. It was disappointing. The pork was dry and fell apart, and not as flavourful as we expected. We didn’t finish this.
This was bebek goreng, a Balinese crispy duck marinated in bumbu ulekan, garlic crumb, lemon basil and assorted sambal. This was nice, but a bit dry after a few bites.

Drinks

Service

The service was friendly and hospitable, like all Indonesian restaurants.

Review

This is a great spot to dine in when you want to try authentic Indonesian food without too much risk of Bali belly. Highly recommend.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
