Florence, Italy 2019

From Thursday till today, we visited the beautiful city of Florence for a short R&R moment. We stayed at the Hilton Florence Metropole and this is our travel diary 😊.

Our Adventure

On Thursday we arrived in Florence via the ItaliaRail and taxied to the hotel. It was not the best check-in experience and our hotel review tells the full story (LINK).
We caught the shuttle bus back out to the city centre to eat at Trattoria Dall’Oste for a 1.2kg t-bone steak 🥩 There’s a seperate food review for this meaty feast (LINK).
And then we wandered the streets, admiring the lights and soaking in the views.
The next day (yesterday) we explored around the Piazza del Duomo where the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore stands (LINK).
After opting out of entering the cathedral, due to the long queue time, we went to the Mercato Centrale Firenze indoor market hall to eat a delicious beef panini at da Nerbone (LINK).
We were still in a sedated state, thanks to our food coma we acquired from the meaty feast and this panini, so we slowly headed towards Ponte Alla Carraia and walked along the river, eating gelato. You can see the famous Ponte Vecchio in the distance.
We saw some locals climbing a wall to this concrete spot in the middle of the river, so we followed suit. We spent a peaceful 30 mins observing nature and talking about life. Afterwards, we tried to climb back up and I realised I was too unfit and heavy to lift myself over the wall. Mick had a great time laughing at me from the top of the wall 😅.
We started making our way towards the Galleria dell’Accademia (LINK).
We stopped by a cafe and sculled a bottle of white wine, because why not 😜, and then headed towards Antica Porchetteria Granieri 1916 for a delicious porchetta panini (LINK).
We headed for Ponte Vecchio for a mini photoshoot. This bridge is famous for its medieval stone design and market area.
In the evening, we had dinner at Fishing Lab Alle Murate (LINK) and then utilised our hotel’s pool with some relaxing spa time.
Today we slept in, checked out and are on the way to Venice via ItaliaRail.

Overall, we loved Florence. There was a huge variety of food (compared to the tourist trap Rome), and it had a calming vibe. We would definitely visit again.

Thanks for reading! Ciao 🤗.
