Tsurutontan Soemoncho

Ooft, these bowls were huge!!! During our holiday in Osaka today, we were hungover and wandering the streets of Dotonbori, searching for masks. We stopped by Tsurutontan Soemoncho in Dotonbori because Aaron said this place made good udon. What we didn’t realise was how big the bowls were and we underestimated our capability to eat it 😨.
This was the tempura udon for Β₯1100. There was so much going on with crispy thin-battered prawn tempuras, fried fish skin, bonito flakes, seaweed and herbs. The udon had a soft and bouncy texture. The soup was a delicious mild umami flavour.

I was disappointed I only ate half of this and wanted to take away but there was literally no time (and microwave) in our travel plans to finish it 😣
Mick got a sukiyaki udon for Β₯1300 with tender slices of beef, onsen egg, enoki mushrooms and other veggies. The broth of this bowl was both savoury and slightly sweet with a deep umami flavour. We loved the texture of the onsen egg once we broke the yolk πŸ₯š.
This was silken tofu with fish roe (cold). It was slimy and soft, with the saltiness from the roe adding a burst of flavour to the otherwise bland tofu taste. It felt luxurious to eat 🀭.

Review

This restaurant is located at the end of Dotonbori so it is out of the way for most tourists. The service was great, as expected of Japan. We had to sit on the floor and after a while, our legs became numb from crossing them πŸ˜‚.
