If you’ve visited Shinjuku then you may have seen the giant Godzilla hanging over the Toho Cinema building. We stayed here for 7 days in March 2020 and it was such a convenient location for our pit stops.
Did you know Godzilla roars? Every day, around 5PM, Godzilla will let out multiple roars, with the street speakers playing “dooming” music and smoke and lights releasing from its mouth. We saw a faint bit of smoke from the street POV but it was cooler to witness Godzilla come to life on the 8th floor.

Location
Everything was so conveniently close, it was amazing! Any food we were craving, we could walk within 10 minutes to eat it. The only downside was that there were no cafes nearby for an early coffee, as the area was known as the red-light district of Tokyo 😅. We had to travel out for the closest Excelsior Cafe.
The train station was a 5-minute-walk and travelling around Tokyo was easy peasy with our JR Pass HERE. The central bus station and shopping district of Shinjuku was on the other side of the station and only a 10-minute-walk.

Room
Bed: It was a firm with a slight softness double bed. It was comfortable to me (back sleeper) but Mick had a bit of trouble falling asleep (side sleeper). We had suspicions this hotel was used as a hookup/one-night-stand kind of hotel because it was Shinjuku and we saw a lot of these ‘couples’ in the lobby but we tried our best to forget this when we went to sleep 🤣.
Cleanliness: It was always tidy and we did not see any mould/stains anywhere. There was a house cleaning option every 2nd day.
Space: We actually stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay.
Our first 6 nights were in the tiny double room (not pictured) for ~$150/night and it was very confined!! There was barely any room to walk and we had to constantly shuffle our belongings around. If I took a photo, you would’ve only seen the walls.
On our way back from Osaka (LINK), we stayed in the superior double room for about ~$450/night. We only stayed for the one night because, oooft, that was expensive, but space was substantially bigger.

Noise: Minimal. We couldn’t even hear Aaron next door or in the hallway.
Air-conditioning: I don’t think we used this feature. There was a good amount of ventilation throughout the room.
Technology: TV had anime channels. The light was a yellow hue. I relied on the natural lighting for makeup application because the sink was awkward.

Bathroom: The bathroom in the standard double room (not pictured) was tiny, with the sink and toilet together, and a seperate section for the shower/bath area. It was also darkly lit. We only enjoyed the hot water and tap in that room. The water pressure was really strong and felt nice on our backs after a long day of exploring.
The new bathroom (pictured above) was more seperated, with the sink standing as part of the hallway. The toilet had its own room with a seperating door so we could use the toilet and bath at the same time.

Extras: We really liked the view from the bedroom. We also loved Godzilla. It was very windy on the balcony.
Amenities: The lobby was very grand, with an attached restaurant and bar. The laundromat, smoking room and computer room were attached to the lobby, on level 8, so it was very convenient for us to wash our dirty clothes. While the machines worked, we would leave for food and the elevator would take us from level 8 straight to the ground floor.
And as mentioned, there were a 7/11, Gindaco (takoyaki stall) and restaurants right at the bottom so we always had options. The Gindaco was open till 11PM so I would always get a fresh batch of octopus balls every night! 😍 Hello, midnight cravings.
