Every time we visit Japan, we always hit Takeshita street in Harajuku, Tokyo. This is one of the most popular and crowded spots with weeb clothing, Daiso, limited streetwear, animal cafes, and snacks! A lot of Japanese people used to dress up in lolita fashion and hang out on this street but unfortunately, the trend has faded a bit. Just sharing some photos and food from all our visits 😄.
There are a few crepe stores along the street, with colourful and delicious-looking displays. The crepes come out warm and soft, with ice cream and fruit fillings of choice for about ¥700. They’re really good but can be a bit fattening, especially when there is so much more to eat in Harajuku.
Hanamaru Udon
We love Hanamaru Udon on Takeshita street. It is an udon restaurant located on the basement floor. They serve bukkake-style udon (hot/cold) with ontama (onsen egg) for about ¥400 a bowl. There are other items, such as tempura and fried tofu, that make great side dishes 🍤.
This restaurant is more of an eatery, serving cheap and delicious food quickly so there is no table service. It reminded us of a cafeteria; eaters queue up to grab a tray and their food, pay and then find a table to eat. Once done, eaters have to put their tray in the collection section. It was very efficient and a great place to take a big group of travellers.

Zaku Zaku
Zaku Zaku is one of the most popular stores on Takeshita street. The ice cream was very creamy and fresh, similar to the famous Cremia. The waffle cone was a plain crunch and the hazelnuts added a sweet caramel taste to the vanilla cream. The wait time is usually 20 minutes but it’s worth it! We always get one (or three) every time we visit Japan 😋
Xing Fu Tang
Xing Fu Tang opened up in Harajuku and we got a chance to try it last month and it was so friggin good! Best brown sugar boba tea we have ever had! 😍 THE JAPANESE USED CREAMIA MILK!! Game changer 11 / 10. The boba and cup were also coated in the creamy delicious brown sugar right in front of us. We’ve tried the Sydney one and it was shit in comparison because Australia does not have creamier milk 🥺.
Another popular spot in Harajuku is the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando with their mirrored entrance. A lot of people visit this spot for the iconic framed shot. A secret travel tip not many know about is to go to the top level of this plaza and enjoy the view of Tokyo with a cocktail 😉
After Takeshita street, there are a lot of clothes and shoe stores, including the Line store, Supreme, Jordans, ABC marts and Adidas. Not many people continue exploring past the traffic light for some reason haha 🤔. We usually save up to go shopping for limited edition kicks in Harajuku and then dine at Harajuku Gyoza Lou for pork dumplings (LINK).
