Moving to Melbourne meant we had to start over to find a good com tam spot, and luckily some friends pointed us in the right direction. Located in Footscray is Tan Thanh Loi, a Vietnamese restaurant known mainly for their grilled pork chops.

Okay, we admit this dish slaps. The pork chop was the right cut, with a good balance of meat and fat. We noted they had already pre-fried the pork chop and slightly charred grilled it before serving, to give it that smokey taste. The fish sauce was delicious too – a custom mix made specifically for com tam. The only downside was the pre-boiled egg. It was not a fried egg with drippy yolk 😭😭.


This was a pork sausage. It was kind of bland, nothing special.
