Tochi Deli

This was a scam of a meal. Tochi Deli is a Japanese eatery inside this abandoned building in Brunswick, Melbourne claiming to serve fresh sushi.

Yes, they’re fresh, but only because they cut the sashimi after an order has been made. Why? To save money. Fresh sushi should be an expectation, not an asset. Whoever thinks this place is good has clearly no understanding of value in this economy.
Can you believe this plate was $45? SIGHHHH

We went here on a Saturday lunch time. We ordered the first round, about $250 for 5 people. It came out after 15 minutes, and when we realised we were still hungry, it took us 15 minutes to order the second round – due to the owner being so oblivious and slow – and then another 30 minutes for the food to come out.

Mind you, $45 for 10 nigiri is not “good value”. It is overpriced, considering they are in the centre of an abandoned building so there is no overhead for rent. They had 3 people making the food, and the owner just micromanaging, but not even catering, to the customers. They had no control of what was ordered, whether the dishes came out with the right amount of soy sauce, wasabi, chopsticks, etc, and didn’t even bother cleaning up tables after older customers had left.

The queue of people was not due to hype or delicious, but caused by poor management and a greedy owner.

We ended up spending 2.5 hours in this shabby place, and about $110 per person. We will never return.

To show you this is not bias; our friends D&J went here a different time with their other friends A&B, left to go to A1 bakery (which is and looked LIT! We’ll go try there soon), and when they finished their meal and came back to Tochi Deli, their friend A&B were still waiting for their food. What a scam.

Don’t waste your weekends here. Thanks for reading.
