Amsterdam is a beautiful city. infamous for its cannabis and red-light district. Due to these illicit tourist attractions, it has become a must-visit city on everyone’s bucket list when they travel to Europe for the first time. But this city is so much more than just these extracurricular activities.
We spent the last 5 days here and this is our travel diary 😊.

Our Adventure
We landed at 9PM on Thursday night and caught a Mercedes AMG taxi to Hotel XO Couture (LINK). After checking in, we purchased a 2-day transport pass from the vending machine in the lobby. It was such an efficient system. The tram station was located right outside our hotel too. We hopped on Line 29 to Daam to buy some weed for the weekend 😆.
The next morning we visited the Anne Frank Museum at 10 AM. We arrived 15 minutes late but surprisingly, there was no queue and we were shown inside immediately upon arrival. It was a very well-designed 3 level space showcasing the true and devastating story of Anne Frank and the sufferings during WWII. No photos were taken inside.
These canals were everywhere, making it really easy to update my Instagram.
The good thing about our hotel was that we were able to visit spots on our way to the heart of the city. We stopped by Dam Square to take tourist pics with Madame Tussauds and the Royal Palace of Amsterdam ✌🏻
Afterwards, we headed to the coffee shop for some fun. If you didn’t know, marijuana is still illegal in the Netherlands however citizens are allowed a small amount for personal use. We were, unfortunately, your typical tourists who shoved a whole space cake into our mouths.
All I remember was sitting down for a burger and then my head spinning, feeling heavy, eyes drooping and somehow we found our way back to the hotel. Good thing Amsterdam has the easiest tram system to navigate, even while high! 🤣
That night we headed back out to the club to see Jordan Suckley and Factor B at Luminosity Trance Gathering. We split another space cake between us but all the marijuana was on my half so I ended up having a second trip within 12 hours 😵😂

On Saturday, we went sight seeing and had burgers with Mitch & Yuka 🥰.
This man was singing and playing his trumpet on his little boat, passing around a shoe for change. We found it so cool how the shoe-on-a-stick was long enough to reach us from the bridge.
The Dutch are not shy about it 😂. It was so strange to see this colourful condom shop casually next to an everyday grocery store. We love the quirkiness of Amsterdam.
Bloemenmarkt is a famous market known for its organic fruits, flowers, seeds and cheese. Even though it was the middle of winter during our visit, it was still packed with people getting ready for the new season.
That night we went to our first International rave, ASOT 900 in Utrecht (LINK). It took us 30 mins to train it from Amsterdam to Utrecht, which we found really convenient. The best set of the night was definitely Armin van Buuren’s 138 stage 🔥 Ooft!
Since the event was from 9pm to 5am, we spent our Sunday sleeping in. We did go out to do our laundry, catching the sunset on our way back.
We headed out to see the famous Red Light District on Sunday night. It’s a very strange place, seeing windows of attractive women in lingerie, smiling and dancing at men passing by in hopes to lure a potential customer. It was like a doll in a box on a shelf, with the glass allowing you to see these half-naked women showcasing their “assets”. It was such a unique experience.
We didn’t go inside. From our research, the prices start from 50€ for small gestures or deeds 😐. Instead, we spent our Sunday night sharing some joints, eating street food and watching a group of guys applaud their friend for finishing with one of the women lol. Hooray to his virginity 🤣

Yesterday we headed to the Van Gogh Museum at 10 AM. It was 3 levels of beautiful artworks and it took us 1 hour to see everything. No photos were taken, other than this one.
Bicycles are an accessible mode of transport in Amsterdam. We hired ours from our hotel for 15€ per person. There were also heaps of “car parks for bikes” in the main city where we could drop our bike off for a few hours to go eat and shop around. We read that if we parked our bike in an undesignated spot, such as a random fence, we would get fined.
We rode our bikes to the old tram hall renovated to a food stall hall. There was a variety of food and drinks to try, giving us a real taste of the Dutch culture (LINK).
We spent an hour riding through Vondelpark, stopping for photos and fresh air. We could smell the marijuana hehe 😏 We also rode past Rijksmuseum but we didn’t go inside due to time constraints (LINK).
We were very shook at the Dutch tiny cars. I stand at 159cm / 5’2″ and the car was smaller than me! But Dutch people are twice my height so how do they fit in these tiny cars 🤔🤔🤔
A lot of our friends told us Indonesian food is really good in Amsterdam so last night, we set out on a mission to find a nice restaurant. We ate at Aneka Rasa Restaurant (LINK) and then rode our bikes home.

Amsterdam was one of our longest stays but also our best stays. We were probably high or hungover most of the time but the food, culture and vibe of the city made everything so much fun. We can’t wait to return. Byeeeee.
