Yum Sing House Restaurant

Yum Sing House is a modern Chinese restaurant with a karaoke bar attached upstairs, so if you’re having a great time at dinner, you can continue the party into the night. We dined here for our friend’s hux and had the Feed Me menu for $80 per person.

Food

We started off with a single pacific oysters with ginger and lemongrass granita. This was refreshing and creamy.
Next was the chicken wonton with ginger scallion vinaigrette. The wonton was soft, encasing the flavourful protein well. The flavours were bold, sharp and delicious.
This was the cured salmon with kumquat soy vinaigrette dressing and golden peas. It was vibrant and refined, with bright citrus notes complemented by the subtle sweetness of the golden peas.
This was beef tartare with sweet soy and wonton skin. It was so good, with a savoury flavour note and harmonious textures. It was a nice modern take on the traditional tartare.
This was gai lan with ginger garlic and oyster sauce. This was a simple and comforting dish.
The main was a otway pork cutlet with honey, soy and calamansi kosho. The cutlet was seared perfectly, leaving it tender and juicy, with a caramelized crust. It was elevated by the bright, zesty punch of the calamansi and the subtle sweetness of the honey-soy.
This cos lettuce with radicchio, ginger and yuzu dressing was straightforward.
The dessert was a ma lai gao with HK milk tea anglaise. It was delicious and sweet-but-not-too-sweet. The only downside was the ma lai gao was warm while the icecream was cold, so the mouthfeel was a bit off. If the ma lai gao was served cold, it would have been even better.

Service

The service was fantastic, considering we were a loud and drunk bunch of 30 people. They offered us 1 hour of karaoke, for free, after seeing our big bill lol.

Review

It was an enjoyable dinner, with a modern take on some Chinese classic dishes. We would return (mainly for karaoke). The karaoke rooms were spacious and clean, with a wide variety of music selections.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
