Si Paradiso

Si Paradiso is a modern Italian restaurant in Highgate, Perth, Western Australia that our friends took us to during our short trip. The restaurant had nice ambience, lively music and a great selection of wines. The price is about ~$25 a dish. Ahh, so cheap in Perth 😂.

Food

We started with oysters, a dozen for $58. These were Albany rock oysters with mignonette and lemon. They were creamier and more plump than the Sydney rock oysters we are used to.
This was the paradiso bread with cacio e pepe butter and burnt eggplant dip for $12. The bread was heavenly: crispy, soft, and oozing in delicious salted butter and chives. Combined with the sweet and charred flavours of that pureed egplant and bam! We’re in for a good night.
This was steak tartare on charred sourdough with pickles, shallot aioli and cured egg yolk.

Breaking it down, the steak tartare was great! We loved the defined texture of little cubes as a lot of tartares tend to be mushed diced meat. There were definitive pieces of shallots, garlic and pickles in the tartare that blended well into a unified bite.

The sourdough was slightly too thick, and hard to bite through, so we struggled to enjoy it with the tartare. The cured egg yolk was lovely, especially shaved as not many people enjoy yolk this way. And the aioli was creamy – in fact a little too creamy that in some bites it overpowdered the tartare. Overall a decent dish for $23.
This was the tuna crudo with blood orange kosho and fennel vinaigrette for $26. The tuna was sliced haphazardly so picking up a piece was messy, causing all the toppings to fall all over the place. It also seemed like the fish was cut too thin in some pieces.

The blood orange sauce was moderately citric (75%) and a little sweet (25%). It drowned out the flavour of the tuna and for that, it was our least favourite dish of the night. Lemme taste that expensive fish!
This was the crab crespelle; a blue swimmer crab with brown butter and horseradish cream for $32. The crespelle was a crispy pancake, with a caramelized coating of butter that made it soooo good. Browning the butter always elevates any dish 😂. The crab was tender, sweet and flavourful.
This was a side dish of crispy potatoes with seaweed salt and vinegar for $13. It was delicious. The potatoes were double fried.
Our last dish was the garlic bread e burrata, a pizza with parmigiano, fresh herbs, pickled garlic scrapes and burrata for $27. The dough was light and chewy, with the nice charred exterior. The burrata was creamy, elevated by the garlic butter and herbs. Conclusion: a delicious Italian pizza.

Review

This was a lovely dinner. We thought the food was delicious and the price reasonable – then again, it’s Perth 😂.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
