Ima Asa Yoru

Ima Asa Yoru is a Japanese specialty and aesthetic cafe during the day, and an izakaya during the night in Brunswick, Melbourne. It’s one of the few places we’ve seen do unique and traditional Japanese breakfasts, including natto. It is on the pricier end for a brunch.

Food

This was an array of sides we got, including a nama kaki for $6. It was oyster with ponzu and spring onion oil. It tasted refreshing and unique. The natto was enjoyable.
This was the Japanese breakfast teishoku 朝ごはん定食 for $34. It had grilled market fish, rice, miso soup, pickles & daily okazu. We got an extra onsen egg for $3.50. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. It tasted homey. The fish was charred and smelled amazing.
This was a side of nasu-no tempura for $12. The eggplant were soft and sweet, with a perfect thin layer of crispy batter.
This was their seasonal hiyashi tan-tan men for $28. It was cold ramen noodles with miso mushroom, takana, sesame sauce and six-eyed scorpion chilli oil. It was interesting. I’ve never had cold ramen so my tastebuds were going off, but it was overall delicious. The broth was milky, the mouthfeel was a soft chew and the flavours were a mix of chilli and cream.

Drinks

Who the heck gets a matcha latte and a pear sake for breakfast lol. Both were great.

Service

The service was very friendly and attentive. The vibes were calm and enjoyable, and with the interior decor and exterior greenery, it was the perfect spot for a yap.

Review

We enjoyed the concept. We might return if we crave these dishes but we’re not in a hurry. We recommend this spot.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating.
