Baguette Studio is a popping French-inspired cafe serving fresh sandwiches in North Melbourne. The Monte Carlo sandwich $17 is their most popular dish, and why we wanted to try this place but on this first visit, we were waiting outside for 45 minutes (Saturday noon) and couldn’t resist trying their other dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen.
Food
The club sandwich with fries $23 arrived stacked high with layers of smoked chicken breast, Virginian ham, crispy bacon, egg, American cheese, and fresh iceberg lettuce, all tucked between slices of soft white bread. It was finished with sweet mustard pickles and creamy mayo, served alongside a generous portion of golden fries. The layers were amazing. Simple and delicious – although nothing out of this world.
The bolognese udon $25 and fried egg extra $3 featured tender wagyu beef simmered in a rich, savoury sauce, coating thick, chewy udon noodles. It was topped with a dusting of parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of fresh chives. A perfectly fried egg added extra richness, its golden yolk blending beautifully into the dish. It was great, but as chefs, we knew how to replicate it at home so again, delicious but nothing spectacular.
The strawberry matcha for $8 was really good.
Service
The service was really friendly and quick. We wished they told patrons who had already finished dining to GTFO, because there were so many couples who hogged the spot for 30mins+ just to be scrolling on their phone. Like if you’re done with your meal, chat for 10 minutes then fuck off.
Review
We want to return for the Monte Cristo Sandwich $23. We won’t be trying these 2 dishes again.
