Elka is a new Japanese restaurant that opened up in Footscray, Melbourne. Their focus is mainly sushi. We dined at 2pm on a weekday, finding the store empty when we ordered, but then it filled up (4 different tables) by the time we finished at 3pm.
Food
We got a serving of Bluefin tuna belly sashimi for $30. The fish was fresh, the cut was thick and there was plentiful. A fair serving.
This was their Seasonal Chirashi Don for $40. It came with an assortment of Ora King salmon belly, Hamachi kingfish belly, akami Bluefin tuna, snapper, St. Helen oysters, abalone, king prawns, ikura, and red caviar served on a bed of rice. It was really delicious. There was plenty of food for the price, and a generous amount of seaweed for the hand rolls too.
This was OG chirashi in large for $49. This was an assortment of cubed Ora king salmon, bluefin tuna, Hamachi kingfish, snapper, St. Helen oysters, abalone and ikura served on a bed of rice. Again, really fresh fish and a good ratio of fish to rice.
Service
Seating is limited inside. They have 2 tables and a bar area. There are 4-5 tables outside, but you run the risk of seagulls.
As for service, it’s run like a casual diner so there’s not much table service. It takes about 20+ minutes for the dishes to come out.

Review
We really enjoyed our lunch. We will return if we want sushi at a cheaper price, and if we did not want to venture into the CBD.
Thanks for reading. Happy eating.
