Monkey’s Corner

If you have heard of MasterChef, you might have heard of Reynold Poernomo, an Indonesian chef who opened Koi Desserts and Monkey’s Corner in Sydney CBD. It is located near Spice Alley. We ate here last week.

food

This was a sea urchin rice bowl that is no longer on the menu. The sea urchin was creamy, with no ocean aftertaste. The roe added a nice pop of freshness to the bite. The rice was plain, seasoned with furikake. The price was in the $30-$40 range.
This was the $48AUD crack bowl, goose foie gras, wagyu rump and onion sauce. The delicacy of this dish was so tender and flavourful. We found the wagyu and foie grass was a large portion of the bowl. The rice was plain, with sweet seasoning. It was so good 😍.
This was the kingfish collar with shichimi and furikake. It was a heavily seasoned dish, ideal for a saltier palate. We had to eat a lot of rice to balance out the salt. The fish was crispy and a little dry. The lime added a nice zest to the flavour profile. We probably would not order this again as it tasted like a fish’s leftover.

drink

The drinks were well blended and sweet! Definitely recommend to stop by for a cocktail.

review

Overall we enjoyed our time at Monkey’s Corner. We found the restaurant very cosy and quirky. The food was very innovative and tasted delicious, but a tad expensive for our current wallets.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
