Temasek

We’ve been seeing a lot about this little Malaysian restaurant in Parramatta, Sydney. Everyone on IG has been recommending their laksa and Hainan chicken so of course, we had to order both when we visited today with V&M 😊.

I apologise for the poor quality photos. These were taken on my phone 🙇🏻‍♀️.

Food

We rarely eat laksa in Sydney because not many places can do it well. The last time we had laksa was 6 years ago, back when Haymarket still had a dingy-looking food court on level 3, but things have changed now.

This laksa singapura with seafood was really delicious for $21.80. The broth was very creamy and flavourful; sipping on it was comforting to the soul. The prawns and calamari were fresh and tender, bursting with juices upon biting into them. The noodles were soft. It was a tad spicy for my basic palate however, thanks to the thunderstorm, it was tolerable and comforting.
Oooft, this hainaese chicken rice for $16.50 reminded us of Singapore 🤤. True to traditions, this boneless chicken was served cold. It was very moist and tender, having soaked up that ginger and herbal broth. The cucumber and coriander were great earthy accents. The flavoured rice had a moderately strong ginger scent but was balanced by the succulent chicken and soy sauce.
V told us the nasigoreng was really good here and dayummmm, glad we listened to him. For $18.80 this was Indonesian-styled rice with chicken, prawns, fried egg and sweet soy sauce. It was very flavourful with a fair amount of seasoning. The rice was still fat and soft, and not dried out from the frying process at all. I’ve been seeing too many brunch posts lately because I was under the impression the egg was runny and was slightly disappointed when I smashed my spoon into the yolk 🤣.
This almond butter king prawns for $42.80 took us by a huge surprise. We ordered it as an extra snack on the side but WOW, THE SEASONING WAS SO DELICIOUS 😍. It looked like they used dried prawn floss with the almonds, creating this bomb of umami flavour that tasted like salted eggs. We couldn’t stop snacking on the almonds. The prawns were stir-fried with their shell on, making them even more enjoyable and satisfying to suck on.

Service

The service was typical of a Chinese/Malaysian restaurant, prioritised on being quick and self-sufficient. Our food arrived in under 10 minutes of putting in our order so they must have been cranking out their specials.

Review

This is a great spot for a casual lunch. Everything we tried was on point and transported us back to Singapore. We’re already thinking about our next visit 🤤.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!!
