Maison Bâtard

Maison Batârd is a modern French restaurant in Melbourne CBD, Australia. We had an impromptu dinner on a weekday. They said they run through 1000 customers on Fridays and Saturdays so if you plan to dine during peak hours, we recommend making a reservation.

Food

We got oysters for $7.50 each. These were pacific oysters from Smithton, Tasmania.
This was a lobster and leek croquette for $18.50. They were amazing! Perfectly sweet and umami filling, with the crispiest shell and a balanced earthy puree.
This was tartare de thon et avocat for $39.50. It was the right ratio of creaminess.
This was souffle au fromage for $28.50. This was light and airy-soft texture with a rich flavor.
We added on the beef bourguignon pies for $7.50 each. It was like a delicious gourmet party pie.
This was eye fillet 200g with sauce au poivre for $68.50.
This was the spanner crab linguini for $49.50. It was rich and creamy, with a full mouthfeel of sweet umami.
Fries are a must at a French restaurant.
Finally we were persuaded to try their passionfruit crème brûlée for $23.50. It was one of the most delicious and sweet brûlées we’ve had in Melbourne.

Service

The service was attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our dining experience here. We were dined upstairs in the patio. This would be such a vibe during the day.

Review

We will return. We loved the variety of French dishes and the small pockets of gastronomy.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating.
