Humble Rays

Humble Rays is a vibrant cafe in Melbourne city. They have unique dishes and coffee, with cute murals and plants. The queue is always this long. We went on a Monday at 10AM and as you can see, people do not have work in Melbourne 😂 After waiting for 45 mins, we were finally seated and ready to eat to our hearts content.

This was a beautiful nitro coffee. Imagine a cold-brew black coffee, pumped with nitrogen to create a thick and smooth texture. It was really mesmerizing to look at when it first came out.

This was the chicken hot sauce. For $18.50, there was a thick piece of Korean hot sauce marinated chicken, with sweet pickled root vegetables, black sesame mayo, fried shallots, cabbage, coriander and leek on a black charcoal bun. The chicken was fried and juicy, with a delicious crispy layer. The bun was soft, moist, and soaked up the crispiness and the fresh vegetables well.

Our motto is to always get a salad to balance the meal 😆 This was the roasted pumpkin, composed of maple pumpkin, quinoa, chickpea, lemon and herbs labneh, green beans, green salad, toasted almonds and saffron vinaigrette. It was very refreshing, not too sour. The pumpkin was sweet and balanced the vinaigrette well.

This was the egg benny. It was a poached egg over ginger braised pork belly, yuzu hollandaise, miso, potato korokke, dukkah, chilli bacon jam and parsley crumbs. We love a good egg porn in our brunch. The egg was cooked perfectly with bouncy whites and a gooey inside. The pork belly was really flavourful and tender.

This was our favourite dish, the crab meat scramble. You have crab meat, with scrambled eggs, Asian herbs, fried shallots, sriracha mayo, red chilli, chilli oil served with a crispy croissant. The egg was soft, moist, contrasted well with the dough. The croissant had that perfect flaky, crispy exterior and cut away easily with our utensils. The kick of chilli added a whole new flavour profile to the bite. Finally, the presentation of the dish was spot on. We highly recommend this! 🥰

This was the thai tea bingsu. If you know us, you would know we love bingsu and travel far for it. Humble Rays did an excellent job with this Thai tea iced shaved, with grass jelly, coconut jelly, fresh cream, vanilla ice cream and condensed milk. The shaved ice did not have the harsh shard texture. It was really creamy and it was a great way to end the meal.

French toast forever! This was the vanilla bean cream, cheese stuffed french toast, boysenberry ice cream, fresh and freeze-dried seasonal fruits, double cream, berry coulis, Persian fairy floss, walnut and almond crumble. The french toast was well toasted and sweet. We loved the variety of fruits and colours.

REVIEW

Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Humble Rays. The food was amazing. The interior was spacious, even for such a busy restaurant. They had a spot for our 2 luggage and a pram. The only downside is the queue but 30 mins to an hour wait seem worth it if we’re going to be eating this much 😜

Thanks for reading! Happy eating.
