Khao Soi

Khao soi is a Northern Thai dish, served in Myanmar. Traditionally it is wheat noodles with coconut milk in a curry soup base. Paying tribute to their roots, Khao Soi is a Winter-trending restaurant in Melbourne (and Sydney) serving this dish in many forms. And it all slaps hard, especially the chilli.

Food

The pumpkin tempura for $9.90 was so interesting! The pumpkin still kept its shape while being soft inside, and the batter was perfectly crispy. Highly recommend eating this at the restaurant and not air-fry the leftovers the next day because it loses its appeal.
I got the khao soi seafood for $26.90. This was their signature thick and creamy curry broth with grilled king prawn, scallops or seared salmon comes with pickled green mustard and crispy egg noodles. It was so filling, especially with the fried pork fat on the side to add on top. Everything was flavourful and soothing – kind of hits the spot of comfort food, even though I’m sure I’ve never even had this dish before.
Mick got the Khao soi pork ribs for $25.90. Again, signature noodles and broth with a fat juicy pork ribs that was so tender, it fell off the bones and into the curry.
We also got this sai aua for $20.90. This is the Northern Thai style of sausage. We found it meatier, filling with a blander palate than the typical spiced sausage. It was delicious.

Service

We queued up for about 30 minutes on a Friday peak time and once we were seated, everything went quick and smoothly.

Review

The dishes were really good. We’ll be back.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
