Barilla Oysters

Barilla Oysters is a very popular spot in Hobart Tasmania known for their freshly shucked oysters.

If you’re going to visit, our only recommendation is to go for the $65 all-you-can-eat oyster option. Do not bother with any other dishes. We strayed too far from our main purpose, and got distracted by the idea of trying “other flavours and dishes”, and oh boy, it was an instant regret 💔.

Food

We fucked up and got a dozen each for $34 so we could try “different flavours”. Some of the flavours were good, some were just alright. They offered 6 hot styles and 6 cold styles. The all-you-can-eat would have been natural with lemon. The Asian in us said AYCE would have been a better value 💔.
This was the sashimi plate with Atlantic salmon and black lip abalone for $69. Everything was very fresh, but it was very straightforward. Why is abalone so expensive?? 😭😭
This was the curried scallop pie with mashed potato and tomato relish for $29. It honestly tasted like a microwaved pie. There was barely any scallops 🤡, and the curry was a westernized Indian curry flavour. The mash potato was decent, but on the drier side.
This was a fish chowder on the daily specials menu. Yeah…. there was no fish. It was bland. And I believe this serving was $32. We got conned 🤡.

Service

The service was all over the place. They started off attentive but once we ordered, it was chaotic. One moment they brought out cutlery for 3 (we had 4 people) and next minute they were clearing plates with food but leaving the empty ones..

The poor service made us regret our dining experience even more.

Review

We do not recommend. Plain and simple. It’s a tourist trap.

Thanks for reading! Happy eating
