Kobe is a famous city located in Hyogo Prefecture, known for its delicious wagyu beef. It is the sixth-largest city of Japan. You can catch the shinkansen (bullet train) from Hiroshima to Osaka and stop by Kobe for a quick exploration, which is what I did today 😄.
Our Adventure
After arriving in Kobe, I dropped off my luggage at the luggage storage centre located on the bottom floor of Shin-Kobe station. I had a really large suitcase and a smaller bag and it cost me $10 AUD to reserve a spot for 8 hours.
Nankin-Machi (or Chinatown) was a really cute and fun street filled with little statues, cafes and Chinese-inspired restaurants. It’s really crowded during the day so I didn’t have time to explore the little alleyways. It took 2 minutes on the Seishin-Yamate Line to reach Sannomiya station from Shin-Kobe station, and then an 8-minute walk.
I walked 8 minutes towards the waters to explore the Port of Kobe, the earthquake memorial and the dancing koi statues (LINK).
There were a lot of teppanyaki-style restaurants, burger joints and steak restaurants on Ikuta road. I had a delicious Kobe wagyu lunch at Kobe Beef Kiyama (LINK).
I’m really glad I stopped by Kobe, even if it was just a short visit. The city had a really chill, peaceful vibe and was a lot less crowded than Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. I met two Japanese girls who kindly took this photo for me. There was a lot to explore and eat and do so I can’t wait until next time when I visit this beautiful city with Mick.
Thank you for reading! Be Kobe (tender and full of flavour) 😉
