SOT Dining

SOT dining is a new concept Korean restaurant that started in 2025, serving mondernised yet comforting dishes to Melbourne, Australia. We dined on a weekday afternoon so it was a walk-in, with only one other patron.

Food

We had to get the mulhoe guksu for $28 as it was heavily hyped on Instagram. This was spicy ceviche in cold gochujang broth served with noodles and various seafood.

It was really refreshing and delicious, with a moderately spicy tang. It does remind us heavily of the Paldo Bibimmen Spicy instant noodles so when considering the price point, we know we could recreate this better at home.
This was the steak sot for $32. It was grilled beef steak with spring onion and butter rice in a sot “set” – came with kimchi, soy-marinated half boiled egg, pickled potatoes and a miso soup. It was good, with tender beef that had an enjoyable caramelised coat. This was a nice and very filling lunch set, but overall flavour-wise, nothing special. Just good and executed well.
This yukhoe for $22 was another hyped dish. It was Korean style beef tartare with chips. The beef was long stringent of sirloins, and tender in itself. However, they used a lot of friied shallots which did add a nice crunchy texture to the bite, but it also took away a lot of the flavour from the beef. The amount of fresh green onions also ruined the flavour balance too.

Drink

The drinks were flavourful, but the alcohol felt lacking. As a restaurant priding and advertising themselves on innovative food and drinks, we think they almost made the mark.

Service

The service was good for a quiet period.

Review

We enjoyed the concept. We found the food slightly overpriced for what it was – comfort Korean food. We will not return.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating.
