Late Night Table

This is one of the most unique food spots Mick found this year. Tucked away in North Strathfield is 야식탁 (Yasiktak), a Korean restaurant serving makgeoli, large intestines and pasta. There are no reservations. We waited 35 minutes at 7pm on a Saturday night.

Drinks

This is what Late Night Table are famous for; their honeycomb chestnut makgeoli (rice wine). The drink had subtle aromas of smokiness and nuttiness. The honeycomb added extra sweetness to the alcohol, which we really enjoyed. It was an addicting enjoyment.

Food

There wasn’t a lot of banchan options, only pickled onions, a msg/garlic powder mix and a chilli sauce.
We regretted ordering the pane cream pasta $29 because it was so creamy towards the end. The first few bites were wonderfully delicious as the umami and cheesy hit out palates. Add in the crispy garlic bread and tender prawns, and this was a rich and filling neutral-cheesy bite.

However as we moved towards the middle to end of the dish, the sauce had soaked the bread to a soggy mess and the sauce thickened some more, making us leave leftovers behind, unfortunately. This is a great dish to share in a group of 4+ people.
We ordered their signature dish grilled large intestines for $45. We were shocked by how fatty the large intestines were! 😲 We thought it would be chewy and lean like the smaller intestines so we were delightfully surprised by the rich, fatty goodness of these pieces. It had a very similar texture to marrow, and was full of flavour.

The outer skin was charred evenly to give it a crispy yet chewy bite. They covered the pieces in gochujang so it had the iconic savoury and sweet Korean taste to it.

The chives were very helpful in cutting through the fat because after a while, we were struggling to finish it. The serving was huge. This is another dish we recommend eating with 4+ people because it was a great drinking-food dish.
My gosh we are back on our fat diet because we also ordered the DIY rice balls. This was simply rice, seaweed, Kewpie mayo, furikake and ikura. The serving was about 3-4 cups of rice. This was aromatic and went really well with the large intestines.

Service

The vibe reminded us of Seoul; just a casual place for friends to get together and drink. The service was straightforward. They only had one guy (owner) who spoke English.

While waiting in queue, they asked us to order first before going to our table so the food arrived within 15 minutes of sitting down. Efficient.

Review

We really enjoyed this place. It had a lot of unique dishes that our late night cravings would tingle for. We’d probably come back end of year. Highly recommend for delicious and fat feeds, plus the rice wine was so good! πŸ₯΄

Thanks for reading. Happy eating.
