Ghibli Park

Ghibli Park in Ngaoya was one of the most underwhelming experiences for us in Japan. We had terrible forecast of 100% rain, so it might have been a bit better if we had dry weather but overall, we do not recommend – unless you LOVE the movies and nature and want to get 15,000 steps in for the day.

Purchasing the VIP tickets was also one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, even compared to buying our EDC Vegas tickets. It took us 2.5 hours to queue for the portal on multiple devices and once we were in, it took another hour to even secure our selected day and time slot because the website kept crashing. You want to buy VIP tickets because they are the only ones that give you guaranteed timed entry into the Grand Warehouse (see below).

Valley of Witches

This area was cool to see the architecture of some of the sets. But the queue was long. Easily 30+ minutes despite the wet weather so we cannot imagine how bad it would be on a summer day. No photos were allowed inside a lot of the buildings.

Also I can’t believe this guy’s job was to pull a lever every 3 minutes so the hot air balloon moves 30 cm LOL WTH HAHAHA.

Mononoke Village

Dondoko Forest

Ghibli's Grand Warehouse

This was the reason we had to buy VIP tickets so we had a timed entry into this warehouse. This is the only spot in the entire park that has anything remotely relevant to the movies, and the only place where you could take photos (ahem, marketing).

Hill Of Youth

It was pouring hard so we skipped this section.

Overall 1/10, we do not recommend the park on a wet day. Maybe a 6/10 on a dry day.
