Omi 380 is a large fusion of Japanese food, with different “brand” focuses on wagyu, sushi, matcha, baked goods and sakes. Located in Melbourne CBD, we entered through a small bakery which opened up to a large urban warehouse with multiple bars for each food pillar. And the menu was extensive.
We dined on a Thursday afternoon (3pm) with no booking, and noticed it was 80% full.

Food
This was the sudoku platter for $39.90. It was a chef-curated bites inspired by lively izakayas, with seasonal seafood like ora king salmon sashimi, diced maguro tuna, hamachi king fish and blue swimmer crab.
It looked beautiful and “wow” but definitely did not taste it for almost $40. If we had to break it down, each plate was about $4.50. Compared to the photos on the menu, the rice balls looked smaller than what was illustrated lol. The seafood was fresh but nothing amazing. It tasted like they took the sushi rolls from convenience stores and displayed it differently. This was also not filling.

This was the premium sashimi chazuke for $39.90. I hate when restaurants do this – just put the price tag as $40 *eye roll*. This was a rice bowl with tuna, salmon, king fish, sliced egg and cucumbers, served with hot dashi broth.
This was decently good. The seafood was fresh but that was it. It was filling and comforting.

We had to try a few yakiniku. In no order whatsoever, we got grilled chicken thigh for $5.90, grilled pork belly for $7.90, grilled Japanese A5 wagyu for $35.90 😱😱😱, grilled ox tongue for $14.90 😱 and grilled short rib wagyu for $24.90.
Yes, everything was overpriced. The A5 wagyu was a bit chewy, and for $35 for 50g, we expected it to disintegrate in our mouths. We believe it was suggested to eat hot so that the fat would render and make it more “wagyu”. It was definitely a cheaper cut.
The grilled ox tongue was good. The short rib was a bit dry. The grilled pork belly was good. The grilled chicken thigh was average.

Drinks
This cup was so cool! It was the pink fuji for $8.90. It was a single origin cold brew with grapefruit juice, sitting on top of an actual pink fuji and filled with a cream lid. It was tasty, like a vibrant blend of floral, fruity and caffeine.
This was the yuzu ichigo for $7.90. Decent.
Service
The fit out of the restaurant was nice. It felt like being in an artificial forest. The staff were very friendly and efficient. It was well managed.
Review
It was a cool concept but too overpriced for our liking. Influencers are hyping up this place as if they can afford it in this high cost-of-living, when really they got a free meal 🙄 losers. We will not return.
